Almost Flew
by Ted Slater on 05/23/2008 at 9:12 AM

I blogged about Jeff Caylor, a co-worker of mine who engineered and produced our first few podcasts, last November.

Since then, he's presented at the 2008 Dove Awards:

... and created a very cool claymation video of one of his songs, "Almost Flew":

I bought Jeff's album late last year, after it was recognized as the fifth most important CD of 2007 by Christianity Today. I still enjoy listening to it, preferably at night when I'm feeling introspective and melancholic.

I'm inspired by Jeff. Inspired to be more honest and vulnerable in the way I communicate. And inspired to pursue excellence in my creativity.

This is off topic but I have never understood the idea of a "Christian Awards Show"...it seems so prideful....and it's one of the main reasons I have trouble getting my Father to listen to/enjoy CCM...I love CCM but that is one of the only things that taints it for me and I can't really argue back with him when he brings up why people who are supposed to be honoring and praising God are receiving honor and praise themselves...

2

But beyond issues with CCM awards--that was a cool video. I'm continually amazed by the range of Jeff's talents.

3

I bought this cd on iTunes after hearing it on the Boundless Show. Really great stuff! I'll have to check out that video after I'm done listening to the current podcast.

4

Thanks for the post, Ted! People like the bird. I know that much. Appreciate the support!

5

that's an awesome video. think i even prefer it to the song!

6

Augustine said that the love of worldly possessions is a sort of bird line which presents the soul from flying to God. I wonder if this is what Jeff had in mind when he made this video.

7

Awesome video. =D

8

I love the bird, too! How Jeff Caylor got me to feel sympathy towards a piece of clay is beyond me. ;)

Great music, as well. :)

9

I really like that song & claymation video. (I even added it to my Facebook Wall!) It reflects a lot of the way I think that most Christians feel (if they're honest) about their Christian walk. It's such a frustrating but hopeful journey.

Yesterday, as I was sitting on the bus coming from work, I was wondering where my life was going and thinking about all the changes and challenges I will have to face. And I was very scared. That sweet little bird was such an inspiration. Thanks a lot (I immediately bought the song on iTunes)!

I love that video. (I wonder, is it normal to relate so much to a piece of clay?) At first, it was a tad depressing, but then I was reminded of the victory we have in Christ.
