American Idol Faves
by Ted Slater on 02/20/2008 at 1:07 PM

A year ago I confessed my admiration for American Idol contestant Melinda Doolittle.

It's probably premature to have a favorite so early in this year's season, but if pressed, I have to admit that David Archuleta would be at the top of my list. Jason Castro and Michael Johns did fine last night, but I do have to have a favorite, no?

Tonight the women are singing. I may have to write another blog post tomorrow identifying a new favorite....

I agree about David, he is my favorite so far. I also thought that Michael Johns did a GREAT job, however I didn't care for John Castro's performance, I was a really disappointed with it. I am looking forward to the girls' performance tonight!!!

2

I liked Jason Castro. He was cool and hip with those dreadlocks. It's all about who's the coolest after all. ;-)

3

I liked the three you mentioned as well. In spite of all the hype about this being the most talented bunch of contestants ever, I was underwhelmed. Several of the guys just seemed awkward and nervous and "pitchy." David A, Jason, and Michael were the only ones who pulled out really solid performances. Here's hoping the girls do better! I really liked Syesha during the audition portions of the show, so I hope she does well.

Wow, my roommate and I are both head over heels for David; I can't believe the voice that comes out of him every time!

5

favorite guys: David Archuleta, Jason Castro.

Favorite Girls: Ramiele Malubay, Kady Malloy, that one girl who sounds like Carrie (I think its Kristy Lee Cook, but I don't remember), and Carly Simson.

So far, I think the girls are way ahead. Ramiele rocked last night, and Kady has an amazing voice.

David Archuleta schooled everyone...and at only 17, too. Best one, bar none. The rest I find are far behind his caliber. Check out some of his videos on youtube, he's got some great Christmas songs and others (A Thousand Miles cover with him playing piano is really good).

7

I forgot to mention the girls... Ramiele is my favorite, or possibly Sayesha. Tough call with the ladies so early in the game.

Well, against my better judgment, I watched the guys and girls sing-off this week.

What's with the Bride of Frankenstein girl? She should probably settle for a career as a Janis Joplin impersonator, since that's the only sound she seems able to generate.

Yeah, the David guy is good--almost too good. Does that generate resentment among the voting public? That's a genuine question: I don't know.

To my surprise, though, at the end of the two days, the four weakest performers were voted off. (There are several other singers who should be seriously worried this week.)

Curse you, Ted, for getting me hooked on this! What is your part-time job--crack dealer!?

Well having just seen the results show on cable without planning to, and having checked out those three guys on youtube... That kid David is actually amazing. :O:O:O I didn't think that much of Michael Johns. Gotta say though, American Idol has a WAY higher standard of singers than our equivalent shows. Most of your contestants are a lot better than most of our winners. I'm gonna put that down to the fact that the USA is about 60 times bigger than the UK...

I'm still a little irritated that Kyle didn't make it into the top 24. I wonder if Paula and Randy are regretting their votes against him, after his "replacement" Colin got kicked off so soon.

The girl I couldn't remember the name of was Alaina Whitaker.
